October 7 Predictions

The following are my current predictions in the Picture, Director, Screenplay and Acting Categories. Although The Master may end the year my favorite, knowing it has a very small chance of going the distance now, my pony in this race will have to be Silver Linings Playbook, maybe. I loved David O Russell’s last offering and also read the source novel and loved it. I’m very excited about all of the support behind it at this point, though I certainly have yet to see it.

An air of, perhaps even inevitability seems to be brewing around Jennifer Lawrence at least for Silver Linings, but Joaquin Phoenix may also be shoring up support. Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln has the issue of having very recently won, as well as the voice we see in the trailers. Day-Lewis’ fellow actors seem to be raving, so maybe you get past it, but I think Joaquin Phoenix may be the place Oscar chooses to honor The Master. Yet, the screening of Lincoln tomorrow evening at the New York Film Festival will be watched quite closely.
